Brief of SVU

As one of the most ever-lasting vocational university in Jiangsu Province, Suzhou Vocational University was established in May 1981 based on Suzhou Industrial Junior College founded in 1911. Inheriting itself over one hundred years, our university has been cultivating talents and elites through years, including 7 academicians as alumnus.

Abiding by “Diligence, Bravery, Credibility, Loyalty” as the school motto, our university has been serving local economic and social development by providing highly qualified technical and skilled-oriented talents. The university consists of 12 schools (divisions), 1029 staff members (including 70 with top academic titles) and 15000 full-time students.

Attaching great importance to international cooperation and communication as well as meeting demands from local development and requirement of talents, the university has been effectively cooperating with overseas colleges and universities such as George Brown College in Canada, Unitec Institute of Technology in New Zealand, Melbourne Polytechnic and Chisholm Institute in Australia, Bendigo Kangan Institute in Australia, University of Bolton in England, Fachhochschule Nordhessen in German, Shelton Commercial College in Singapore and kinjo Gakuin University in Japan on emerging programs, joint curriculums, languages training, etc. There are altogether 10 foreign experts and teachers working here, one having State Friendship Award and other 3 having provincial and municipal rewards.

We have officially been enrolling overseas students and opened Wu Culture courses with local features. We do welcome students from all over the world to our university to take relevant courses, experience Wu Culture and enjoy Soochow-style life.

Education Type

Suzhou Vocational University offers,

1. Academic Education (Associate Diploma)

1. Duration: 3 years

2. Admission requirements:

1. Foreign high school graduates of 18 to 25 years old with valid passports;

2. Good health condition;

3. For applicants choosing Chinese as instruction language, their Chinese proficiency should reach HSK level 4. For applicants choosing English as instruction language, the admission committee will verify their English scores in their home countries and test their English proficiency in interviews before admission.

6. Students with HSK 4 certificate or equivalent Chinese language competence may apply for Chinese-instructed majors for a 3-year study before achieving an associate degree.

Students whose English language proficiency meeting university entrance criteria may apply for English-instructed majors for a 3-year study before achieving an associate degree.

For applicants without HSK 4 certificate applying for majors only taught in Chinese, they need to attend an one-year preparatory course of Chinese Language and enter 3-year degree study after passing HSK 4 Test. Students failing to reach HSK 4 after preparatory course of Chinese Language at the end of the first year, they will be given a completion certificate as one-year language student when passing all the courses but not be admitted as degree students.

After graduation, good students have opportunity to go to our cooperative universities for a 2-year undergraduate (bachelor) study.

2. Chinese Language Program (1 Year)

1. Duration: 1 to 2 terms. Primary, intermediate and advanced classes are available depending on different Chinese levels of international applicants.

2. Admission requirements: (1) Foreign high school graduates of 18 to 35 years old with valid passports; (2) Good health condition; (3) Fluent English speaking and writing competence.

3. Application time: January to July every year

4. Enrollment time: March and September

5. Curriculum: Chinese Intensive Reading, Extensive Reading, Listening, Speaking, Grammar and writing, etc. Students can choose Chinese History and Culture, Chinese Musical Instruments, Music, Drawing and Calligraphy as selected courses.

Scholarship for Associate Diploma Students

The university offers scholarship for diploma students meeting the admission criteria. Students applying for the scholarship shall attend the interview and entrance examination organized by the university. They will be awarded the scholarship for the first year according to their entrance examination results and their academic performance at homeland. Subsequent scholarships will be awarded on the basis of previous year’s academic record and school performance. Students who do not meet the study requirements will not be eligible for further scholarship.

Enrollment scholarship covers:

Tuition fee, dormitory fee (Triple room with bathroom, air conditioner, water heater, RMB 1200 yuan per year)

On-campus scholarship covers:

1. General academic scholarship based on students’ performance

2. HSK scholarship

Self –support Cost

Chinese Language Program and Internship Program students

Tuition fee (6400 yuan per year); Dormitory fee (1200 yuan per year, triple room with bathroom, air conditioner, water heater)

Associate Diploma, Chinese Language Program, and Internship Program students

1. Visa fee: 400 yuan per year

2. Physical examination fee: 381 yuan

3. Insurance fee: 600 yuan per year

4. Utility fee: charge on actual consumption

Students who enjoy stipend from Chinese government or Suzhou Vocational University need to pay for teaching materials (approx.500 yuan per year).

Application Procedure

Register on website http://jssvc.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx, fill in the application truly and completely as required, and upload relevant application materials in accordance with the requirements.

Admission Procedure

Admission depends on the application documents. If necessary, online interview or telephone interview will be arranged.

Entrance Notice

Once accepted, students will receive the following documents via express mail, Entrance Notice of Suzhou Vocational University, Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China (JW202) and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners. With these documents, foreign students can go to Chinese Embassy nearby to apply for the X-type visa or F-type visa.

Registration

All the students enrolled by the school need to register according to the date given on the Entrance Notice of Suzhou Vocational University. Those who fail to register in time are supposed to get the permission from the school in advance, otherwise, enrollment will be canceled.

Students need to bring their Entrance Notice of Suzhou Vocational University, Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China (JW202), Passport and 8 photos to International College to register.
